About the Team Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s Compute Bare Metal Provisioning team builds services and tools that automate the server lifecycle, from platform creation and hardware bring-up to customer-ready instance provisioning and firmware management. The team works across distributed systems, Linux, and hardware integration. Its services provision, configure, secure, and validate compute and GPU platforms across OCI’s fleet, interfacing with components such as BMCs, NICs, SmartNICs, ILOMs, GPUs, and custom firmware. Team members partner with Compute, Networking, Security, Data Center Engineering, and Hardware Development to launch and operate platforms reliably at scale. Job Summary As a Senior Core Infrastructure Engineer, you will design, develop, operate, and debug software and services that power OCI’s bare metal and GPU infrastructure. You’ll build scalable distributed services and tooling, work across the stack from orchestration to Linux systems, and help bring new server platforms into production with high reliability and low operational overhead. Key Responsibilities Design and develop major software components for OCI’s compute infrastructure. Build and operate scalable services that automate server provisioning, configuration, security, and validation. Develop tooling for hardware bring-up, platform lifecycle management, and firmware orchestration. Troubleshoot issues across distributed services, Linux systems, and hardware integrations. Collaborate with partner teams to launch and maintain platforms across AMD, Intel, Arm, and NVIDIA systems. Improve service reliability, scalability, performance, and operational efficiency. • • Take ownership of engineering problems, identify improvements, and deliver solutions in an agile environment. Qualifications & Skills Mandatory 3–8+ years of software development experience, including building or operating large-scale, highly available distributed systems. Strong coding skills in Java or C++, plus experience with Python or another scripting language. Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems fundamentals. Experience or exposure to Linux, operating systems concepts, and systems troubleshooting. Familiarity with TCP/IP, HTTP, and standard network architectures. Understanding of databases, NoSQL systems, storage, or distributed persistence. Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with the ability to learn new technologies and collaborate across teams. Comfort using AI agents and prompt engineering to support software development, code analysis, and debugging. Good to Have Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code experience. Experience with Docker, SQL, or Java web services. Systems engineering experience, including performance tuning. Firmware or hardware experience, especially with servers, GPUs, BMCs, NICs, SmartNICs, or ILOMs. Experience building multi-tenant or virtualized infrastructure. Self-Assessment Questions Have I built or operated distributed services that needed to remain available and reliable at scale? Can I contribute hands-on code in Java or C++, and use Python or scripting to automate engineering tasks? Have I worked with Linux systems and debugged issues across software, operating systems, or infrastructure? Can I explain how networking, storage, and persistence affect the behavior of distributed services? • Am I comfortable learning unfamiliar systems and working across software and hardware boundaries?
