Who we are Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale. Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term. About the role: Samsara is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Test Infrastructure and Quality Engineering organization. You will lead a multidisciplinary organization of engineering managers, software engineers, and quality engineers responsible for advancing how we prevent, detect, and resolve regressions across Samsara’s Connected Operations Cloud. Your teams will combine deep quality-engineering expertise with scalable infrastructure, automation, and hands-on product validation to help engineering teams deliver reliable customer experiences. Your organization will build and operate the shared test platforms, frameworks, environments, data systems, and developer workflows that make high-quality testing accessible to every engineer. You will also enable Quality Engineering ICs with the tools, standards, and practices needed to perform effective automated and exploratory testing, investigate complex failures, and provide actionable quality signals throughout the development lifecycle. This role sits at the intersection of engineering productivity, product quality, and customer trust. You will establish Samsara’s quality strategy, define measurable standards for regression prevention and release confidence, and partner with engineering and product leaders to embed quality earlier in the development process. As Samsara’s products and engineering organization scale, you will ensure that our testing capabilities scale with them—improving coverage and signal quality while reducing test latency, flakiness, and manual effort. You should apply if: You want to impact the industries that run our world: The software, firmware, and hardware you build will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely. You want to build for scale: With over 2.3 million IoT devices deployed to our global customers, you will work on a range of new and mature technologies driving scalable innovation for customers across industries driving the world's physical operations. You are a life-long learner: We have ambitious goals. Every Samsarian has a growth mindset as we work with a wide range of technologies, challenges, and customers that push us to learn on the go. You believe customers are more than a number: Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end user and you will have the opportunity to participate in customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to ensure our work is translating into better customer outcomes. You are a team player: Working on our Samsara Engineering teams requires a mix of independent effort and collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we’re all racing toward our connected operations vision, and we intend to win—together. Click here to learn about what we value at Samsara. In this role, you will: Lead and develop an organization of engineering managers, software engineers, and quality engineers responsible for test infrastructure, automation, and product-quality validation. Define the vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for quality engineering and shared testing platforms across Samsara. Build scalable, self-service test infrastructure—including frameworks, environments, test data, device and service simulators, and CI/CD integrations—that can be adopted by engineering teams across the company. Establish measurable quality outcomes, including escaped-regression rates, automated coverage, test reliability, time to signal, defect-detection effectiveness, and release confidence. Drive a shift-left quality strategy that improves system testability and makes quality an integral part of architecture, development, code review, and continuous delivery. Partner with product engineering teams to identify high-risk customer journeys, close critical coverage gaps, and prevent recurring classes of regressions. Improve the reliability and usefulness of automated testing by reducing flaky tests, shortening feedback loops, and making failures easy to diagnose and act upon. Ensure Quality Engineering ICs have effective tooling and operating mechanisms for exploratory testing, complex end-to-end validation, release qualification, and regression analysis. Introduce intelligent and AI-assisted capabilities for test generation, failure classification, root-cause analysis, coverage identification, and quality insights. Build a strong technical and leadership bench by hiring, coaching, and developing inclusive, highly engaged, and high-performing teams. Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles as the organization scales globally. Our backend is written in Golang, runs on AWS, and is deployed using Terraform, though direct experience with these technologies is not required. An ideal candidate has: 10+ years of relevant software engineering, developer infrastructure, test engineering, or quality engineering experience. 5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including experience managing other managers and leading organizations containing both managers and senior ICs. A track record of building and scaling shared test infrastructure, automation frameworks, developer platforms, or quality systems used by multiple engineering teams. Deep knowledge of modern testing strategies across unit, integration, contract, end-to-end, performance, reliability, mobile, web, API, and distributed backend systems. Demonstrated success using metrics and engineering mechanisms to materially reduce escaped regressions and improve release confidence. Strong technical depth and the ability to guide architecture, review technical designs, evaluate implementation quality, and make pragmatic build-versus-buy decisions. Experience creating high-signal CI/CD quality gates while balancing test coverage, execution speed, reliability, and developer productivity. A strong understanding of exploratory and manual testing and where human judgment provides value beyond automation. Experience driving adoption of horizontal platforms through intuitive APIs, documentation, enablement, stakeholder partnership, and a strong internal customer orientation. The ability to influence engineering and product leaders, establish shared accountability for quality, and lead complex initiatives across organizational boundaries. Experience operating quality systems for large-scale cloud, mobile, IoT, hardware-integrated, or distributed products. Excellent communication, organizational leadership, and talent-development skills. The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role is also eligible for an initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff, and ongoing refresh opportunities tied to performance,
