Software Engineer - Backend

**Job title:** Software Engineer – Backend **Company:** Apex Tech Sourcing (recruiting on behalf of micro1) **Location:** Remote **Job type:** Contract, part-time (about 15 hours a week) **Pay:** Paid per completed task. micro1’s listed range is $30–100 per hour equivalent, depending on how many tasks you complete and how quickly. A weekly minimum number of tasks applies. **About the role** Apex Tech Sourcing is recruiting backend engineers for micro1, a company that provides training data and evaluations for AI models. You’ll help train AI systems by creating realistic, challenging coding tasks and the automated checks that grade them. No prior AI experience is required. You choose your own days and hours, including weekends. **What you’ll do** - Create coding tasks for AI models, such as feature implementation and bug fixes - Build automated verifiers that accept valid solutions and reject incorrect ones - Review code and test it for correctness **What you need** - Strong backend experience in Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, TypeScript, Python, C++ or similar - A track record of building scalable services and APIs - Comfort with debugging, performance work and automated testing - Good code review instincts **Nice to have** - Experience fixing hard bugs and performance bottlenecks - Refactoring and building complex features in large codebases - Strong grasp of algorithms, data structures and computer science basics **Hiring process** - Apply and answer the screening questions - AI interview, about 15–20 minutes - Technical assessment (tentative) - Hiring manager review Please complete the interview and assessment on your own, without outside help.
